Dragon Hoops (First Second)

Dragon-Hoops.jpg

In his latest graphic novel, Dragon Hoops, New York Times bestselling author Gene Luen Yang turns the spotlight on his life, his family, and the high school where he teaches.

Gene understands stories--comic book stories, in particular. Big action. Bigger thrills. And the hero always wins.

But Gene doesn't get sports. As a kid, his friends called him "Stick" and every basketball game he played ended in pain. He lost interest in basketball long ago, but at the high school where he now teaches, it's all anyone can talk about. The men's varsity team, the Dragons, is having a phenomenal season that's been decades in the making. Each victory brings them closer to their ultimate goal: the California State Championships.

Once Gene gets to know these young all-stars, he realizes that their story is just as thrilling as anything he's seen on a comic book page. He knows he has to follow this epic to its end. What he doesn't know yet is that this season is not only going to change the Dragons's lives, but his own life as well.

Includes Dragon Hoops (First Second) with Gene Luen Yang signed bookplate.

Superman Smashes the Klan (DC Comics)

The year is 1946. Teenagers Roberta and Tommy Lee just moved with their parents from Chinatown to the center of Metropolis, home to the famous hero, Superman. Tommy makes friends quickly, while Roberta pines for home. Then one night, the family awakens to find their house surrounded by the Klan of the Fiery Kross. Superman leaps into action, but his exposure to a mysterious green rock has left him weak. Can Roberta and Tommy help him smash the Klan?

Includes Superman Smashes the Clan (DC Comics) with Gene Luen Yang signed Superman bookplate sticker.

Our panelists will celebrate the history of the women who laid the groundwork for modern-day fandom as we aspire to carry on their legacy.

Hosted by Heather Boddy. The cosplay community should be a safe space for people of all shapes and sizes. Unfortunately that is not always the case. Of course we want to feel amazing strong and empowered in our cosplays but that doesn’t mean we have to beat ourselves up at the gym to look like the character we are cosplaying. In this panel we will discuss how to fall in love with fitness and channel your inner superhero as well as what it means to love yourself throughout the process. Cosplay and fitness should both feel empowering. Let’s have a conversation about how to feel better in our bodies in and out of cosplay.
